From Vison to Service
Founded on January 28, 2021, Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 240 was established through the vision of Charter Founder Ramona Ross-Bacon and a dedicated group of veterans committed to improving the lives of those who served. What began in 2018 as monthly Veterans Claims Clinics in Cedar Hill quickly evolved into one of the fastest-growing DAV chapters in the Department of Texas. Officially installed on April 24, 2021, under the leadership of the chapter’s first Commander, Ray C. Johnson, Chapter 240 has become a recognized leader in veteran advocacy, benefits assistance, and community service.
Today, Chapter 240 has grown from 28 charter members to more than 458 members, welcoming 120–150 veterans to monthly meetings. The chapter has earned the prestigious Frank Webb Membership Award for four consecutive years (2022–2025) and received multiple Blue Capper Recruitment Awards recognizing outstanding membership growth. Through thousands of volunteer service hours, members have processed over 1,800 VA disability and survivor claims, conducted crisis interventions, represented veterans in treatment courts, hosted annual Veterans Resource Fairs and Claims Clinics, launched a successful Veterans Gala benefiting veterans and scholarships, certified new Service Officers across Texas, and expanded youth and community outreach programs. Guided by DAV’s mission of “Fulfilling our promises to the men and women who served,” Chapter 240 continues to set the standard for leadership, advocacy, and compassionate service.
